- Permits are mandatory for installation, with fees determined as per section 15.04.050.
Construction Standards; Minimum Requirements:
- Solid fences (4 to 6 feet in height) require one four by four wood post, or equivalent, for every 30 square feet of fence area.
- For fences (4 to 5 feet in height), two horizontal stiffeners are necessary, with the lower stiffeners within 12 inches of ground level and the upper stiffeners 12 inches to the top of the posts.
- Fences over five feet in height need three equally spaced horizontal stiffeners from ground level to the top of the fence.
- All posts (4 to 6 feet in height) must be set in concrete at a depth of at least one and a half feet into the ground, with a concrete diameter not less than eight inches.
- Fences constructed under these standards must be maintained and in good repair.

Fences require a separate permit application. Permits are submitted electronically using the City’s Citizen Self Service online portal.

- Solid fences (cedar fences, picket fences, etc.) require a signed solid fence certification form to be submitted with the application.
- Fence built directly on property lines require written permission from the adjacent neighbor and will need to be included in the application.
